Burnett Thompson (piano)

Burnett Thompson, pianist, composer, educator, lives near Washington, DC. He recently completed his 10th lecture/performance tour of China. Previous and future tours receive funding from the Fulbright program. Performances with Shanghai-based jazz vocalist Coco Zhao, erhu virtuoso Ma Xiaohui, tango specialist Juan Pablo Jofre Romarion, Flamenco guitarist Abraham Carmona, and the New Columbia Swing Orchestra have made for a lively and varied performance schedule.

Mr Thompson has had broad experiences in the classical, jazz, and world music scenes. As a concert manager, he has brought artists from China, South America, and Europe to collaborate on stages in Washington, DC and New York. He is a host for the Jazz on Jackson Place series, artistic director of the New Columbia Swing Orchestra, the Foggy Bottom Chamber Ensemble, and the Phillips Collection Musicales. Burnett is the founder of the Silent Shakespeare and the Sonnets series, now in its 16th year. He has also enjoyed a long relationship with Maestro Lorin Maazel, assisting in educational and performance projects since 1997. Burnett's numerous performances at Castleton Theatre include jazz, classical, Chinese traditional music, and his own compositions.

Burnett was educated at the Hochschule fuer Musik in Vienna, Austria, and the New England Conservatory of Music.
